How long does it take to fully charge a car battery after starting the engine?

A car battery typically takes 16 to 20 hours to fully charge after starting the engine. When a car battery is depleted, it is recharged by the alternator, which requires a relatively long time. Taking a 12V60Ah battery as an example, using constant voltage and current-limited charging method with 14.8V constant voltage and 15A current limit, it takes 16 hours to fully charge. If using the car's alternator for charging, it will take even more time and also consume additional fuel. When a car battery runs out of power, it is recommended that car owners use a dedicated battery charger. Generally, the battery capacity of family cars is above 60Ah, and the required charging current is one-tenth of the battery capacity. Using a battery charger, it takes 3 to 5 hours to fully charge the battery.
