How Long Can Vehicle Inspection Be Delayed?

Vehicle inspection cannot be delayed beyond the current month. If the annual inspection deadline is registered as May 30th, the inspection must be completed by May 31st. If the inspection is done on June 1st, it will be considered overdue. According to Article 47, Paragraph 4 of the Motor Vehicle Registration Management Regulations, if a vehicle fails to undergo the mandatory safety inspection within the specified period, the public security traffic management department will issue a warning or impose a fine of 200 yuan and deduct 3 points from the driver's license. The annual inspection can only be conducted after the fine is paid. Annual inspection refers to a comprehensive safety check of the vehicle conducted every year or every two years, covering areas such as the horn, brakes, axle weight, chassis, ignition system, lighting system, exhaust system, and license plate installation.
Last time my car's annual inspection was about to expire, and I happened to be on a business trip for two months, so I went to the DMV to ask if I could get an extension. The staff said that generally, it can be delayed for one to three months, but I needed to provide a reason like work or health proof. I filled out a form explaining my situation, and it was approved within a week, giving me a two-month grace period. The key is not to delay too long, otherwise, I might face a fine of a few hundred bucks, and it could affect insurance claims. I recommend starting the process two weeks before the deadline, checking small issues like lights and brakes in advance to avoid last-minute troubles. Remember to bring your ID and vehicle registration when applying for an extension—the whole process was pretty smooth, but getting it done on time is always the easiest. After all, safety comes first; delaying too long with poor car condition can easily lead to accidents.
