How Long Can Motor Oil Be Stored After Opening?

Motor oil can be stored for about six months after opening. After opening, the remaining oil should be sealed as soon as possible by tightly closing the cap. It can also be sealed with wax. If wax sealing is inconvenient, you can use a clean plastic bag folded several times to cover the oil container's opening before tightening the cap for better sealing. The oil should be stored in a cool, dry place to prevent it from deteriorating quickly. The functions of motor oil: 1. Shock absorption: When the pressure in the engine cylinder rises sharply, it suddenly increases the load on the piston, piston pin, connecting rod, and crankshaft bearings. The lubrication through the bearings helps cushion the impact load. 2. Rust and corrosion prevention: Lubricating oil can adhere to the surface of parts, preventing contact with water, air, acidic substances, and harmful gases. 3. Cooling: The oil can carry heat back to the oil tank and dissipate it into the air, helping the radiator cool the engine. 4. Cleaning: Good-quality oil can carry carbon deposits, sludge, and worn metal particles from engine parts back to the oil tank through circulation, washing away dirt generated on the working surfaces of parts through the flow of the lubricating oil.
