How long can license plates be retained after vehicle scrapping?

After a vehicle is scrapped, the motor vehicle license plate can be applied for retention within 1 year, and the application can also be extended for an additional half year. This means car owners who are planning to purchase a new vehicle do not need to rush, nor do they have to worry, as sometimes waiting for a new car can take more than half a year. After completing the transfer registration or cancellation registration of the motor vehicle, the original owner can apply to the vehicle management office to use the original license plate number when registering a newly purchased motor vehicle. Please note that the application to use the original license plate number must meet the following conditions: (1) The application must be submitted within six months after completing the transfer or cancellation registration; (2) The owner must have possessed the original vehicle for more than three years; (3) All traffic violations and accidents involving the original vehicle must be resolved.
