How Long Can a 2021 License Plate Be Retained?

2021 license plates can be retained for two years. After the cancellation, relocation, or transfer (change of ownership) of a motor vehicle, the retention period for the original license plate number has been extended to two years. This means that within two years after the vehicle transaction, the original license plate number will not be returned to the number pool. Moreover, the new regulations have also adjusted the requirements for the usage period of motor vehicle license plates. Previously, a license plate had to be used for more than three years to be eligible for retention, but under the new rules, it only needs to be used for more than one year. Additional requirements for applying to retain the original license plate number are as follows: 1. The vehicle owner must have used the license plate for more than one year. 2. The application must be submitted within six months after the transfer or cancellation registration. 3. All traffic violations and accident records related to the original motor vehicle must be resolved.
