How long before expiration should a driver's license be renewed?

Motor vehicle drivers should apply for license renewal at the vehicle management office of the license issuing authority within 90 days before the expiration of the current license. When applying, the "Motor Vehicle Driver's License Application Form" must be completed. Other methods for renewing a driver's license are as follows: Renewal via the "Traffic Management 12123" APP. Download the "Traffic Management 12123" APP, then select Service Center -- Expiration Renewal Service -- Fill in the required information. The new license is usually delivered by mail. Visit the "Police-Medical-Post" service point at a postal office to process the renewal. The entire procedure from registration, medical examination to new license production takes only half an hour. Currently, this service is only available in a few cities, such as Hangzhou. Documents required for renewal: Bring two copies of ID card, two recent 1-inch color photos without hats, original ID card, original driver's license, and a medical examination certificate from a county-level or above hospital (free medical examination is also available at the vehicle management office).
I remember the last time renewing my driver's license was quite a hassle. You have to get it done within 90 days after expiration, otherwise the license becomes invalid. If caught driving with an expired license, it counts as unlicensed driving and may result in fines. From my own experience, it's best to prepare materials like original ID card, one-inch photo, and medical examination report one month in advance, then make an appointment at the vehicle management office or online. Don't forget the medical check-up - many places test your vision and other items. If you delay too long, between three months to one year you'll need to take supplementary tests, and over one year means retaking both theory tests (Subjects 1 and 4), which is really troublesome! For safety, set a phone reminder and don't procrastinate - renewing on time saves future headaches.
