How Long Are Driving Test Scores Valid?

According to the "Regulations on the Application and Use of Motor Vehicle Driver's Licenses", if the subject one test is not passed, the score is retained without time limit; if the subject one test is passed, the score is valid for three years. Each subject of the driver's license test can be taken once, and if the test is not passed, a make-up test can be taken once. If the make-up test is not taken or still not passed, the current test is terminated, and a new test appointment should be made. Additional information: 1. Within the three-year validity period of the driving skill test permit, the number of appointments for the subject two and subject three road driving skill tests shall not exceed five times, meaning there are a total of 10 test opportunities for subject two and subject three road driving skill tests. If the fifth appointment test is still not passed, the scores of other subjects that have been passed will be invalidated; 2. There is no limit on the number of appointments for subject one and subject four safety and civilized driving knowledge tests. If the subject four safety and civilized driving knowledge test is not passed, the passed road driving skill test scores remain valid; if the subject two or subject three test is not passed, the interval for re-appointment is shortened from 20 days to 10 days.
I remember when I first got my driver's license, the theoretical test results were valid for three years. I was busy with work back then and delayed starting the road test for nearly two years, almost missing the deadline. My friend Lao Wang is a good example—he forgot about it and had to retake everything in the fourth year, costing him extra money and effort. The retention period is quite reasonable, ensuring driving knowledge stays up to date, but don’t procrastinate like I did. I recommend new drivers arrange road tests and practical training as soon as possible—usually, it takes three months to a year to complete. Before driving, always review the theory to ensure safe driving for yourself and others on the road. This deadline helps build good habits and prevents forgetting crucial knowledge.
