You can drive on the highway immediately after obtaining your driver's license, but there are requirements. Requirements: For the first 12 months after a motor vehicle driver initially obtains a driver's license or adds a new permitted vehicle type, it is considered the probationary period. During this period, if driving on the highway, the driver must be accompanied by someone who has held a driver's license for the same or a higher vehicle type for at least 3 years. Probationary Period Introduction: During the probationary period, drivers must affix or hang a uniform-style probationary sign at the rear of the vehicle; they are not allowed to drive buses, passenger vehicles for hire, police cars, fire trucks, ambulances, engineering rescue vehicles, or vehicles carrying explosives, flammable and explosive chemicals, highly toxic or radioactive materials, and other hazardous items; the driven motor vehicle must not tow a trailer.
