Geely's 1.4T engine is quite impressive, featuring advanced technologies and high-quality components such as an efficient turbocharger, maintenance-free timing chain, roller rocker arms, hydraulic lifters, cylinder head integrated exhaust manifold, full-plastic cylinder head cover, full-plastic intake manifold, and dual-mass flywheel. It offers advantages like strong power, quick response, long lifespan, low friction, low noise, and energy efficiency with environmental protection. Additionally, Geely's 1.4T engine incorporates the new VVT (Variable Valve Timing) system from Geely, which not only enhances engine power but also improves fuel efficiency. The Geely 1.4T engine can deliver a maximum power of 98kW at 5200rpm and a peak torque of 215Nm between 2000 to 4000rpm, with a fuel consumption of approximately 6 liters per 100 kilometers.

I bought a Geely Emgrand last year, equipped with a 1.4T engine. It feels quite powerful when driving, with timely turbo response during city acceleration—quick pickup but not excessive. Fuel consumption is well controlled, averaging around 6.5 liters per 100 km, and it can drop below 6 liters on long weekend trips with the kids. For maintenance, I follow regular servicing, and the cost for oil and filter changes is reasonable, with decent service at the 4S shop. The downside is the noticeable noise, especially during cold starts or at high RPMs, which can be uncomfortable. In terms of reliability, after 15,000 km, I haven’t encountered any major issues, though some owners report occasional turbo noise—recommending a test drive before purchase. Overall, it’s very family-friendly and a solid recommendation for buyers with a budget under 100,000 RMB.

From a technical perspective, Geely's 1.4T turbocharged engine strikes a good balance between power and efficiency. With an output of 133 horsepower and 215 Nm of torque, it exhibits minimal turbo lag during acceleration, and pairs smoothly with the dual-clutch transmission. The fuel economy is commendable, with real-world urban driving consumption around 7 liters per 100km. The engine features a compact internal design and lightweight cylinder block materials, though its heat dissipation under high temperatures is slightly weaker, requiring attention during summer hill climbs to avoid overheating. Compared to Volkswagen's 1.4T engine, it has slightly lower reliability but offers easier maintenance and more affordable repair costs. In daily driving, the power delivery is linear with strong acceleration, making it suitable for enthusiasts who enjoy occasional spirited driving. It's recommended to perform a comprehensive inspection every year to prevent turbocharger carbon buildup.

As a parent, I chose Geely because the 1.4T engine is smooth and safe, providing adequate yet not aggressive power for school runs. The low fuel consumption saves me hundreds on gas each month. The noise level is moderate—a bit loud with windows down but decently quiet when closed. In eight months of driving, there have been no issues, maintenance is affordable, and the 4S service is quick. Spacious for family use, the AC works well with the engine. Highly recommended for families—great value and reliability.
