How is China VI vehicle defined?

China VI is the abbreviation for the National Sixth Stage Emission Standards for Motor Vehicles, commonly referred to as China VI emission standards. It is a national vehicle emission standard that has been gradually implemented since the end of 2019. China VI imposes stricter requirements on the emissions of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter compared to China V. Specific emission standard values can be found in the relevant national standards. The implementation of the China VI policy will significantly improve air quality. Furthermore, to ensure the automotive industry has sufficient preparation time to upgrade related vehicle models and powertrains, as well as to prepare for production, the China VI standard adopts a phased implementation approach, setting two emission limit schemes: China VI A and China VI B, which were implemented in 2020 and 2023, respectively. Additionally, key regions with special requirements for atmospheric environmental management may implement the China VI emission limits ahead of schedule.
