The police will handle the situation based on the extent of damage and the severity of the act as follows: 1. Intentional destruction of public or private property: For minor amounts and less severe cases, it is considered a general violation of the law. According to the "Public Security Administration Punishment Regulations," the offender may be subject to detention or warning, fined separately or in combination, and ordered to compensate for the losses. 2. Intentional destruction of public or private property involving a large amount or severe circumstances constitutes the crime of intentional destruction of property: For acts involving a large amount or other severe circumstances, the punishment is imprisonment of not more than three years, criminal detention, or a fine; for acts involving an especially large amount or other particularly severe circumstances, the punishment is imprisonment of not less than three years but not more than seven years. If the damage value is significant, according to Article 33 of the "Provisions of the Supreme People's Procuratorate and the Ministry of Public Security on the Standards for Filing and Prosecuting Criminal Cases under the Jurisdiction of Public Security Organs," intentional destruction of public or private property that involves any of the following circumstances shall be filed for prosecution: 1. Causing a loss of public or private property exceeding 5,000 yuan; 2. Destroying public or private property three or more times; 3. Gathering three or more people to openly destroy public or private property; 4. Other serious circumstances.
