Before installing a charging station, users need to independently inspect whether the parking space meets the installation conditions. The key issue is whether the parking space can be connected to the State Grid's power lines. The charging station is powered by ordinary residential electricity, which is more complicated and requires users to first apply to the State Grid for a power supply box wiring. After approval, the State Grid will arrange for staff to install the wiring on-site.
I had my charging station installed last year, and the whole process took over twenty days. The first step is to obtain proof of a fixed parking space—either ownership or a long-term lease is required to apply. You’ll need to get an approval letter from the property management, and some residential complexes may also require submitting the 3C certification for the charging station brand. Next, upload the required materials on the State Grid app—electronic copies of your ID card, parking space proof, and property management approval letter are mandatory. The power company will send a technician for an on-site inspection to assess the distance from the distribution room. Any cable exceeding 30 meters will incur additional costs at your own expense. My installation used 6-square-millimeter copper-core wiring, and the materials alone cost over 2,000 yuan. During installation, make sure the distribution box has reserved slots for leakage protectors, and outdoor stations must meet IP54 waterproofing standards. It’s advisable to ask for tips in the neighborhood group chat beforehand—some older residential areas may require additional applications for power capacity upgrades due to insufficient supply.
