Driver's License Test Process and Subjects: Subject 1: Mainly tests basic knowledge of road traffic safety laws, regulations, traffic signals and their meanings, traffic rules, etc., totaling 12 class hours (a maximum of 4 class hours per day). According to regulations, you can only schedule the Subject 1 test after completing all class hours. There may be slight variations in different regions. Test Rules: There are a total of 1,325 questions, with 100 randomly selected to form a test paper. Each question is worth 1 point, with a full score of 100 points. A passing score is 90 points, and the test duration is 45 minutes. Note: There is no limit to the number of attempts for Subject 1 and Subject 4. If you fail, you can pay a retest fee and reschedule the test until you pass. Subject 2: The five mandatory test items are reverse parking into a garage, parallel parking, stopping and starting on a slope, turning at a right angle, and driving on a curve. Some regions may have additional items. Currently, except for the requirement to complete the slope start within 30 seconds, time limits for reverse parking and parallel parking are still in the pilot phase and have not been fully implemented. The full score is 100 points, with a passing score of 80 points. One immediate retest is allowed if you fail. Note: The maximum number of retests for Subject 2 and Subject 3 is 5. If you fail all 5 attempts, previous scores will be invalidated, and you will need to pay and register again. Subject 3: Mainly tests 16 items, including starting, driving straight, shifting gears, changing lanes, pulling over, driving straight through intersections, turning left at intersections, turning right at intersections, crossing pedestrian crossings, passing school zones, passing bus stops, meeting other vehicles, overtaking, making U-turns, and driving at night. The full score is 100 points, with a passing score of 90 points. One immediate retest is allowed. If you fail the retest, you can reschedule after 10 days. Note: Do not rush commands; actions taken before the command is fully broadcasted are invalid. Use turn signals for at least 3 seconds before acting. Turn off the engine before exiting the vehicle and close the door properly after exiting. Subject 4: Mainly tests safe and civilized driving knowledge, including comprehensive judgment of illegal behaviors and case analysis, safe driving knowledge, recognition of common traffic signs, markings, and police gestures, emergency avoidance knowledge, and traffic accident rescue. Test Rules: There are a total of 1,128 questions, with 50 randomly selected to form a test paper. The question types include true/false, single-choice, and multiple-choice. Each question is worth 2 points, with a full score of 100 points. A passing score is 90 points, and the test duration is 30 minutes. Note: After passing all tests, you can collect your driver's license from the driving school you registered with after 7 days, or you can choose to have it mailed.
I just got my driver's license last year, and the whole process took about three months. After registration, I had a medical check-up first to ensure my vision and other aspects were normal. Subject 1 was the theoretical test, with a bunch of questions in the question bank. I practiced daily on the 'Driving Test Guide' app and passed with a score of 92. Then came Subject 2, practicing in the driving yard was really challenging—reverse parking, parallel parking, hill starts—I practiced these maneuvers many times. The instructor often said my alignment wasn't accurate. On the test day, I was super nervous and stalled once but still passed smoothly. Subject 3, the road test, was even more nerve-wracking—actual driving on the road with the examiner sitting beside me, having to adapt to various road conditions like lane changes with signals, watching for pedestrians. A small mistake almost cost me points, but I made it through. Finally, Subject 4 was about safe and civilized driving knowledge, similar to Subject 1 but more focused on safe behaviors. Passing it meant getting the license. Remember, don't cram at the last minute; practicing mock questions is the most practical. And during Subject 3, always watch out for blind spots.
