The Touran does have a 7-seater version, as this model offers both 6-seat and 7-seat configurations. The Touran's body dimensions are 4527mm in length, 1829mm in width, and 1659mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2791mm. It is equipped with a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine across the entire lineup, delivering a maximum power of 110kW and a peak torque of 250Nm. This engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The Touran, first introduced in 2003 on Volkswagen's PQ35 platform, derives its name from the combination of 'Tour' (representing travel) and 'an' (symbolizing versatility), signifying its role as a comfortable travel-oriented multi-purpose vehicle. The Volkswagen Touran has consistently been a representative model of European MPVs, excelling in both comfort and handling.

As a parent of two kids, I used to drive the older generation Touran L 7-seater. The third row can indeed fit two children, but the legroom is quite tight. For family trips, it's advisable to let the kids sit in the back, and you can still fit a 28-inch suitcase and a foldable stroller in the trunk. The seating follows a 2+3+2 layout, with three independent seats in the second row being very practical—just fold down a single seat to access the third row. However, it's worth noting that the 7-seater version involves more hassle with annual inspections and insurance compared to the 5-seater, but it's worth it for family outings.

Last week, I went to the dealership for a test drive of the 2023 Touran. The salesperson mentioned that the main models are all seven-seater versions. I specifically tried the third row—it's acceptable for adults under 1.7 meters tall on short trips, but uncomfortable after more than half an hour. The most surprising part was how flexible the seat folding is; with the last two rows folded down, it turns directly into a double bed. As for downsides, the seven-seater version is about 20,000 yuan more expensive than the five-seater, and with all seats up, the trunk space shrinks to just 390 liters, making it difficult to fit even carry-on luggage.

Research on MPV data reveals that the Touran 7-seater version has a wheelbase of 2791mm, with the third-row seat cushion height being only 270mm. This design results in adults sitting in a squatting position like on a small stool, while children sit more stably. The key point is the ISO-FIX interface in the middle of the second row. After installing two child safety seats, a slim adult can still sit there, a layout rarely seen in this price range.
