My own car is equipped with the RNS315 system from Volkswagen Golf, which I've been using for several years. Honestly, it doesn't support CarPlay. Apple CarPlay became popular after 2014, while the RNS315 is an older system that wasn't designed to catch that wave. If you try plugging in an iPhone, the screen won't respond at all—you can only use Bluetooth for calls or music, and navigation relies on the built-in map CD or an SD card. I've checked the owner's manual, and it doesn't mention CarPlay compatibility either. This is quite inconvenient for me, especially during long trips when using phone navigation means diverting attention to a small screen. If you want CarPlay, I'd recommend upgrading to Volkswagen's MIB system or installing an aftermarket module, but you'll need to spend some money and have a professional shop assess the risks. For daily use, I solve the navigation issue with a phone mount, as the car's basic functions are sufficient. Overall, the RNS315 is reliable but outdated, and keeping up with the times requires some effort.
