The RAV4 has a heated rearview mirror function. The heating function for the RAV4's rearview mirror is integrated with the rear windshield defroster, controlled by a button labeled "REAR" located in the middle of the bottom row of the center console. Pressing this button activates the heating. The heated rearview mirror is particularly useful during rainy or snowy weather. When activated, the heater behind the mirror quickly warms the mirror surface, gradually removing rain or fog, eliminating the need for the driver to manually wipe the mirror and reducing driving hazards. How to use the heated rearview mirror function: There are generally two ways to activate the heated rearview mirror function. One is combined with the electric mirror adjustment knob—simply rotate the knob to turn it on. The other is located on the air conditioning control panel—pressing the heating button activates it. No manual angle adjustment is needed, as the driver's side has a dedicated adjustment button. Principle of the heated rearview mirror function: When the button is pressed, the electric heater behind the rearview mirror glass rapidly heats up to a fixed temperature, typically between 35-60 degrees Celsius, within a few minutes. Heat is then radiated from both left and right mirrors. As the temperature rises, water droplets on the mirror surface evaporate, and fog gradually dissipates, effectively defrosting and defogging the mirror. However, in heavy rain, the effect may be less noticeable. Precautions for using the heated rearview mirror function: The heating function works by using electric heating wires embedded in the mirror, which consume significant power. Ensure the vehicle is running when using this feature to avoid draining the battery, which could prevent the car from starting. Other methods for defogging rearview mirrors include: Opening windows slightly to allow air circulation between the inside and outside of the car, reducing temperature differences and gradually clearing fog. Adjusting the car's air conditioning to the appropriate setting to blow warm air, which helps remove fog.
