The Magotan does have four-wheel drive models, including: the 2012 Magotan imported wagon, the 2007 Magotan imported luxury version, and the 2007 Magotan imported premium version. Four-wheel drive means the vehicle maintains all-wheel drive throughout the entire driving process. Taking the 2012 Magotan imported wagon as an example, it belongs to the mid-size car category with body dimensions of: length 4771mm, width 1820mm, height 1550mm, and a wheelbase of 2712mm. The 2012 Magotan imported wagon is equipped with a 2.0T turbocharged engine, delivering a maximum power of 155kW, maximum horsepower of 211PS, and maximum torque of 280Nm, paired with a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission.

To be honest, I've driven several generations of the Magotan. Currently, all models sold domestically are front-wheel drive configurations. Volkswagen positions the Magotan as a city elite vehicle, and front-wheel drive fully meets daily commuting needs. However, in earlier years, the imported Magotan Variant did come with a 4Motion all-wheel-drive version. That fifth-generation Haldex system was particularly stable on icy roads, and you might still occasionally find used ones at parallel import dealers. If you're set on an all-wheel-drive sedan, the Audi A4L quattro version next door is a more realistic option—it's pricier but genuinely superior in mechanical performance.

I checked the latest configuration list, and the Magotan produced by FAW-Volkswagen doesn't come with four-wheel drive in any variant. Actually, equipping a sedan with four-wheel drive is too costly—the driveshaft eats up rear passenger footwell space, and fuel consumption increases by two or three points. However, the North American version of the Passat (essentially the overseas Magotan) does offer 4Motion as an option, which is particularly popular in snowy states. Last week, while helping a friend inspect a used Magotan B7, I discovered that the 2012 imported top trim came with four-wheel drive and a center differential featuring a locking function, making it much more composed over shell craters compared to the two-wheel-drive version. If you're really keen on a four-wheel-drive sedan, you might want to consider a Mercedes-Benz C-Class with 4MATIC.

Currently, all Magotans available at 4S dealerships are front-wheel drive, but the third-generation EA888 engine bay can easily accommodate a four-wheel-drive system. Last year at a tuning show, I saw enthusiasts transplanting the 4WD kit from the Teramont into a 380TSI version, even recalculating the driveshaft angles. However, ordinary owners really don't need to go through such hassle—the front-wheel-drive version with XDS electronic differential lock is already stable enough for rainy-day cornering. On the other hand, the 4Motion system used in the overseas Arteon Shooting Brake can achieve 100% rear-wheel power distribution, making it as fun to drive as a rear-wheel-drive car.
