The Magotan does have a manual mode. When in D gear, simply push the gear lever to the right. The plus and minus signs are located on the left side of the D gear when pushing the lever to the left, and on the right side when pushing to the right. After switching to manual mode, the driver can control the gear shifts. To upshift, push the gear lever in the direction of the plus sign; to downshift, push it in the direction of the minus sign. The car's dashboard will display a prompt when in manual mode. The Magotan inherits the technical standards of German sedans. In terms of active safety, the Magotan 1.8TSI and all models in the series are equipped with ESP electronic stability program, which effectively prevents the car from skidding when avoiding obstacles at high speeds, ensuring the safety of both the driver and the vehicle, making the Magotan's active safety performance even better.

This is something I can really relate to, having studied it while driving my friend's new Magotan. Its DSG dual-clutch transmission comes with an M manual mode—no need to press the clutch, just shift the gear lever to the right from D to manually shift up or down. The most interesting part is the two small paddles behind the steering wheel: left for downshifting, right for upshifting. When overtaking, a quick flick sends the revs soaring, delivering a much stronger kick-in-the-back feel than automatic mode. Using lower gears in rainy weather also provides more stable traction, though I'd advise against prolonged high revs since it's not a pure manual transmission structure.

I've noticed many owners are unaware of this feature. Most Volkswagen automatic transmission models conceal a manual mode - just shift the gear lever to D position then push right to engage M mode, with current gear displayed on the instrument cluster. Locking lower gears prevents frequent shifting during climbs, while engine braking reduces brake wear during descents. Last week on mountain roads, taking hairpins in 2nd gear proved exceptionally stable, though automatic mode remains more convenient in urban areas - the transmission will upshift automatically when exceeding redline to protect itself.

Last winter, driving the Magotan at minus twenty degrees Celsius left a deep impression. When starting in D gear and experiencing wheel spin, switching to M2 gear and gently pressing the throttle allows for more precise torque control. In manual mode, the transmission won't downshift automatically, so it's best to pre-downshift before climbing steep slopes. Pay special attention to potential jerks during consecutive downshifts, as the system has a 0.5-second response delay to operations. When wanting to overtake on the highway, using the paddle shifters to downshift two gears and revving up to 4000 RPM unleashes the turbo's full power, which is absolutely impressive.
