Does the Li ONE engine provide power?

Li ONE engine provides power. The Li ONE is equipped with a 1.2T three-cylinder gasoline engine. However, this engine does not directly drive the vehicle but powers it through electric motors. Supply of Li ONE engine: The Li ONE DAM12TD range-extender engine is supplied by Dongan Power Company. It is a three-cylinder engine with a displacement of 1.2T, a maximum power of 96kW, and a maximum of 131 horsepower. This is Dongan Power's first engine for new energy vehicles. Dongan Power is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Changan Automobile, a listed company on the A-share market, mainly producing engines, transmissions, and components. Usage of Li ONE engine: The Li ONE engine is used as a range extender for power generation and does not directly drive the vehicle. The electric four-wheel-drive system consists of front and rear dual motors. The front drive motor is provided by United Electronics, the rear drive motor by BorgWarner, the electric drive control system by Inovance Technology, and the power battery by CATL.
The powertrain of the Li ONE is quite interesting. Although it is equipped with an engine, the engine does not directly drive the wheels. During normal driving, the power is entirely provided by two high-power motors at the front and rear, delivering a smooth and quiet driving experience just like a pure electric vehicle. So, what about the 1.2T engine? It actually functions as a range extender, specifically responsible for charging the battery or directly supplying power to the motors. For example, during long-distance drives when the battery is running low, the engine automatically starts to generate electricity, allowing the vehicle to continue moving without stalling. Therefore, in the Li ONE, the engine acts more like a mobile power station carried onboard, supplying energy to the electric motors by generating electricity, thereby indirectly ensuring the vehicle's power and range. This system addresses the range anxiety associated with pure electric vehicles while also avoiding the jerky feeling that comes with the direct drive of traditional hybrid vehicles' engines.
