The car radiator coolant needs to be replaced. The functions of car coolant are: 1. To provide anti-corrosion protection for components of the cooling system; 2. To prevent scale formation and avoid reducing the heat dissipation effect of the radiator; 3. To ensure the engine operates within the normal temperature range. Precautions for using coolant include: 1. The coolant level should be checked regularly and replenished promptly if it falls below the lower limit; 2. Observe whether the coolant has any turbid sediments, and replace it in time if there are turbid substances; 3. Different car models have coolants of different colors, which cannot be mixed; 4. Before winter, measure the freezing point of the coolant to prevent it from freezing.

I definitely recommend changing the coolant regularly. Last time my car had issues because I waited too long, and rust started forming in the radiator. It was quite scary when the engine temperature suddenly spiked. Coolant doesn't just prevent freezing; it also protects against engine corrosion and scale buildup. After about two years of use, the additives get depleted, and the liquid can turn cloudy or develop an odd smell. In severe cases, it may clog the pipes or even cause engine failure. Generally, you should replace it every two years or after driving 40,000 kilometers, depending on your car's condition and the brand of coolant used. I check the fluid level and color periodically myself. If I notice excessive foam or dark discoloration, I take it to the shop immediately. This minor maintenance doesn't cost much but keeps the car running smoothly.

From a safety perspective, antifreeze must be replaced regularly. Having driven for many years, I've witnessed numerous malfunctions caused by neglected antifreeze changes, such as sudden engine overheating and stalling during summer highway driving or frozen pipes leading to leaks in winter. This increases the risk of cylinder bursts, jeopardizing driving safety. Typically, it should be replaced every two to three years, depending on the vehicle manual and local climate; colder northern regions require more frequent changes. Never substitute water for professional antifreeze during replacement, as specialized coolant maintains boiling points and prevents corrosion. Also, check the radiator cap and hoses for aging cracks. Proper maintenance can significantly extend engine lifespan.

In terms of saving money, changing the coolant is quite cost-effective. I've done it myself a few times. A new bottle of coolant costs just a few dozen yuan, and the process isn't difficult: first, open the engine hood when the car is cold, locate the radiator drain plug to release the old coolant, then fill it with new coolant up to the marked line. If you don't change it in time and problems arise, such as internal part corrosion or overheating leading to major repairs, the cost could easily range from hundreds to thousands. It's recommended to change it every two years or so to avoid unnecessary expenses. Also, be careful not to mix different brands of coolant to prevent chemical reactions that could render it ineffective. Simple maintenance saves both worry and effort.
