BMW 5 Series has launch control. How to set up launch control: Switch the driving mode to Sport or Sport+ mode, then shift the electronic gear lever to the left to M/S position. Press the brake pedal with your left foot, fully depress the accelerator with your right foot, and quickly release the left foot brake pedal to launch. Introduction to launch control: Launch control is an acceleration technique that uses the transmission to adjust the engine speed to the maximum torque output platform, enabling the engine to deliver maximum torque from the very start of acceleration for optimal performance. In various famous acceleration competitions, almost all racing cars use methods such as increasing turbo pressure, using semi-slick tires, and adding racing fuel. In addition, another essential acceleration technique is launch control.

My 2020 BMW 530i M Sport comes with launch control, and the activation method is quite special: first turn off the traction control, press the brake pedal fully with your left foot and floor the accelerator with your right foot, then suddenly release the brake when the RPM reaches 3000. Remember to select Sport+ mode, as this function is locked in normal mode. I tried it once in the suburbs, and the acceleration was even more intense than an airplane taking off. However, tire wear is indeed severe—the tread on the factory tires noticeably wears down after about five uses. If you plan to use it frequently, it's recommended to switch to semi-slick tires.

Most BMW 5 Series models with the sports package can perform launch control, but it mainly depends on the engine type. The mechanic at the tuning shop I frequent mentioned that the 540i comes with the LC (Launch Control) program pre-installed, while the 525i requires ECU reprogramming to activate it. During operation, a flag icon will appear on the central display to indicate readiness, and the all-wheel-drive version is more stable than the rear-wheel-drive version. However, the older transmission models are prone to overheating protection if used repeatedly for launch control. It's best to let the car rest after two attempts, especially in summer, as the transmission oil temperature can easily reach the red zone.

When performing launch control, pay attention to road conditions. During BMW driving training, the instructor emphasized three key points: it must be done on a straight road, the surface must be dry, and it's best to wait until the tires are warmed up. The new 5 Series has a transmission protection mechanism that forcibly locks the function if used more than three times consecutively. During launch, the RPM will surge to around 4000, but never hold the brakes for more than 5 seconds as it can cause significant damage to the brake discs and torque converter.

Even grocery-getter cars can have performance fun. My friend's 525Li with the optional Dynamic Handling package comes with launch control. To activate it, you need to turn on auto start-stop, shift to S gear + Sport Plus mode, and fasten the seatbelt. The dashboard will display 'Launch Control Activated'. However, warranty concerns should be noted - the 4S service department mentioned that transmission damage caused by launch control isn't covered, but they'll still honor warranty for issues arising from normal use.

The most damage from launch control is inflicted on the driveshaft and differential, especially during the instant torque surge. The tuning community often notes that BMW's launch logic is more conservative than Mercedes', with programmed RPM limits to protect the transmission. The key technique lies in the speed of releasing the brake with your left foot—it must snap off like an electric shock to achieve the 4.6-second 0-100km/h sprint. It's recommended to perform this no more than three times per month, and after each session, let the transmission coast in neutral for two minutes to cool down before parking.

How to Remove the Fuel Pump on a Buick GL8?

First, relieve the pressure by removing the fuel pump fuse or fuel pump relay, then start the engine and let it run until it shuts off automatically. Lift the vehicle on a hoist. You can see the fuel filter next to the right rear wheel. Use tools to remove the fuel filter protective cover, then use a wrench to disconnect the fuel lines. Replace with a new filter (pay attention to the orientation of the filter), then reinstall the fuel lines and filter cover. Lower the vehicle and start the engine to check for leaks.

How to Choose Between Volkswagen CC and Toyota Camry?

Camry has a slight edge. The front of the Camry looks more youthful, with chrome trim running across the middle, and smooth body lines, giving an overall comfortable feel. Volkswagen CC narrowly wins. The Camry's dashboard is more traditional, with average material feel, and the steering wheel has wood-grain plastic inserts, making it somewhat dull and old-fashioned. They are almost on par. The Camry starts quickly but isn't very powerful when accelerating, though it has decent power. The Volkswagen CC has adequate power, prioritizes comfort, and accelerates well. The Japanese Camry wins hands down. The Camry consumes 7.6-8.4 liters in the city and 7.0 liters on the highway, while the Volkswagen CC generally consumes around 10 liters.
