Does the Alto 4AT Transmission Need to Have Its Filter Replaced?

It is not necessary to replace it. If you don't remove the oil pan to change the transmission fluid, you cannot replace the filter. Transmission Fluid Replacement Interval: It is best to replace it once after 17,000 kilometers. Although manual transmission fluid does not cause discomfort when exceeding 17,000 kilometers, this is a critical point. Functions of Transmission Fluid: The transmission generates a significant amount of heat during operation, and the transmission fluid helps dissipate this heat. During daily driving, gears must be shifted according to driving conditions, and the transmission fluid needs lubrication to ensure smoother gear changes. It also helps keep the transmission system clean and extends the lifespan of the transmission components.
I previously drove an Alto with a 4AT transmission, and indeed the filter needs regular replacement, just like other automatic transmissions. If not replaced, impurities in the fluid can accumulate, leading to faster wear of internal transmission components, or even issues like rough shifting or slipping. During my own maintenance routine, I typically replace the filter every 60,000 kilometers, along with the transmission fluid, which helps extend the transmission's lifespan. You can check the vehicle's manual for the manufacturer's recommended mileage intervals, as different models may vary slightly. It's advisable not to wait until problems arise before servicing—spending a bit more time and money on prevention can save a lot of hassle, as transmission repairs are far from cheap.
