Does More Teeth on the Chainring Make You Faster?

No. Theoretically, for mountain bike rear gears, the more teeth on the smallest cog, the slower the speed. Fewer teeth result in a higher gear ratio, making you faster. However, under normal circumstances, the smallest cog can only be used in combination with the largest chainring. Here is some additional information: 1. 48-tooth chainring: A 48-tooth chainring is about the largest for mountain bikes. To increase the number of teeth on a mountain bike chainring, you would need to switch to a road bike chainring (unless the mountain bike has a special bottom bracket specification, most can be replaced with road bike chainrings). 2. Road bike chainring: The most common largest chainring for road bikes is 52 or 53 teeth, with some exceptions reaching 54, 56, or even 58 teeth. There are chainrings larger than 58 teeth, but they are rarely seen on the market.
