Changan vehicles are equipped with particulate filters. A particulate filter is a ceramic filter installed in the exhaust system of diesel engines, which captures particulate emissions before they enter the atmosphere. Functions of the particulate filter: The particulate filter can reduce soot produced by diesel engines by more than 90%, and the captured particulate emissions are subsequently burned off during vehicle operation. Principle of the particulate filter: The diesel particulate filter is coated with metals such as platinum, rhodium, and palladium. The black smoke containing carbon particles emitted by the diesel engine enters the exhaust particulate trap through a dedicated pipeline. After passing through the densely arranged bag-type filters inside, the carbon smoke particles are adsorbed onto the filter made of metal fiber felt. When the adsorption of particles reaches a certain level, the burner at the end automatically ignites and burns, turning the adsorbed carbon particles into harmless carbon dioxide that is then expelled.
Many new models from Changan Auto are indeed equipped with particulate filters, such as GPF (Gasoline Particulate Filter), as emission regulations are becoming increasingly stringent. The China VI-B standard requires control over fine particles in exhaust gases to reduce air pollution. I’ve driven newer models like the Changan CS75 PLUS, and the salesperson mentioned it comes with a GPF system. The automatic regeneration process kicks in at high RPMs to clear clogged particles. If it gets blocked, a warning light might come on, and fuel consumption may slightly increase, but daily driving isn’t affected—longer trips help keep it running smoothly. It’s advisable to check the configuration manual or confirm with the 4S store when buying a car, as there are differences between model years and engine types—new energy versions may not have it. Overall, it’s a good feature that helps protect the environment.
