Does BMW have wading protection?
1 Answers
BMW cars do not have an automatic protection function after water ingress and stalling. Once the engine stalls due to water ingress, it is crucial not to restart the engine. Reasons for low wading depth: BMW's turbocharged engines have turbochargers that are prone to sucking water into the intake pipe, resulting in a very low wading depth for BMW vehicles. Therefore, when the water level exceeds the centerline of the wheel hub, drivers should not attempt to force the vehicle through water, as this can easily cause the engine to stall. Hazards after wading: If the car stalls automatically after wading, it indicates that water has already entered the engine cylinders. Attempting to restart the vehicle under these conditions can cause the connecting rods to bend and rub against the engine cylinder walls due to the immense reverse force, leading to immediate cylinder wall damage and severe engine failure.
