Does a Dual-Clutch Transmission Require Transmission Fluid?

Dual-clutch transmissions do require transmission fluid. In fact, they require two types of fluids: transmission fluid and gear oil. The structure of this transmission is similar to a manual transmission, except it has an additional clutch set and gearshift control mechanism. Also known as a Direct-Shift Gearbox (DSG), a dual-clutch transmission features two electronically controlled clutches operated by a hydraulic system. Each clutch corresponds to a separate planetary gear set, resulting in a more complex driveshaft configuration - a solid central shaft drives one gear set while a hollow shaft drives the other.
