Do You Need to Press the Brake When Shifting from N to D in an Automatic Car?

Automatic cars require pressing the brake when shifting from N to D. The brake is a mechanical braking device that slows down the vehicle, also known as a decelerator. The car brake pedal is located below the steering wheel. Pressing the brake pedal causes the brake lever linkage to be pressurized and transmitted to the brake pads on the brake drum, clamping the brake disc and slowing or stopping the vehicle. An automatic transmission typically refers to a car's automatic gear-shifting mechanism. While driving, the control system of the automatic transmission automatically selects the appropriate gear based on the engine speed and load, replacing the driver's subjective judgment and gear-shifting operations. Common automatic cars have six gear positions, from top to bottom: P, R, N, D, S, L.
