Do New Cars Need Break-in Oil?

New cars do not require break-in oil during the run-in period. Here is relevant information about break-in oil: 1. Composition: Break-in oil is essentially engine oil mixed with trace amounts of grinding powder (whose main component is aluminum oxide, also known as corundum, the same material as grindstones). This accelerates wear to shorten the run-in period. 2. Formation factors: The additive aluminum oxide exists in the engine oil as micro-solid particles, with crystal hardness far exceeding that of piston aluminum. These particles embed into the piston's outer diameter. Even after switching to regular engine oil post run-in, the fine grindstone particles on the piston surface continue to abrade the engine until fully consumed.
