Do Motorcycle Batteries Need Charging?

Motorcycle batteries do need charging. Checking and replenishing the battery fluid level: The fluid level in a motorcycle battery must be between the upper and lower limits; it must never fall below the lower limit. If it does, it should be replenished promptly. When replenishing, do not add dilute sulfuric acid, as this can damage the battery due to excessively high electrolyte concentration. Never use tap water, river water, or similar liquids, as they contain calcium, magnesium ions, and other impurities. Checking the battery condition before charging: Check whether the motorcycle battery voltage is below the standard value. If possible, measure whether the specific gravity of the electrolyte is below 1.28 (at 20°C). Inspect the interior of the battery—if one or more cells show signs of corrosion, whitened plates, accumulated material at the bottom, or warped plates, the battery should be replaced. If the battery terminals are dirty, corroded, or oxidized, clean them with a wire brush. If cleaning is insufficient, apply a small amount of electrolyte to corrode the surface, then wipe it dry with clean water.
