Do LED lights need to be installed with ballasts?

The vast majority of vehicle models do not require the installation of ballasts for LED headlights. However, in practice, it is still necessary to analyze based on the specific vehicle model. For example, the Teana's LED bulbs come with an original set of ballasts, so replacing the LED lights also requires replacing the ballasts. There are two types of ballasts: single-unit ballasts and split ballasts. The functions of ballasts are: 1. They have a cold start current of 6.5A (common ballasts are 8.5A~9A or even higher), ensuring fast startup. 2. They feature a wide voltage design, ensuring normal startup under both low and high voltage conditions. 3. During hot starts or when switching power for lighting, the startup current is 5A, reducing the load on the vehicle's power supply due to frequent switching and its impact on other electrical devices in the car. Low current startup prevents bulb aging or light decay and minimizes interference with other vehicle electronic devices.
