Do I need to change the license plate when changing cars?

Changing cars requires changing the license plate. According to relevant regulations, when the vehicle management office handles the registration of motor vehicle changes and needs to change the motor vehicle license plate number, the license plate and driving license will be recovered, a new motor vehicle license plate number will be determined, and the license plate, driving license, and inspection qualification mark will be reissued. The vehicle license plate number can be retained under the name of the original owner under certain conditions: 1. If the old car has been transferred or scrapped and the original owner has used the license plate for more than one year, the original license plate number can be used. When transferring ownership, the license plate number will automatically be retained under the name of the original owner for one year without the need for retention procedures; 2. Within one year after the vehicle is transferred, the original owner can apply to the vehicle management office to use the original license plate number. If the original owner does not apply to use it within one year, the license plate number will be re-entered into the selection pool and publicly released to the public; 3. If the original motor vehicle is involved in road traffic safety violations or traffic accidents, these must be resolved first.
