Do all three wires of the voltage reducer need to be connected?

Not all three wires of the voltage reducer need to be connected. The three wires of the voltage reducer are: black (negative), red (positive), and yellow (constant power). It is not mandatory to connect all of them; you can also just connect the positive and negative wires. However, if only the positive and negative wires are connected, the parking monitoring function cannot be used. Alternatively, if the yellow and black wires are connected but the red wire is not, it may cause the dashcam to fail to automatically start recording when the vehicle is turned on. This is mainly because the dashcam is continuously powered through the yellow wire, but it only starts recording when the vehicle is turned on and the red ACC wire is powered. After the vehicle is turned off, the red ACC wire loses power, and the dashcam delays for a few minutes before stopping recording. If the red ACC wire is not connected, the dashcam will not receive the signal indicating that the vehicle is turned on and will automatically shut down after a few minutes, requiring manual activation of the recording.
That day, a regular customer asked me this question at the auto repair shop, and I said the three brothers of the voltage reduction cable must not be separated. The red, yellow, and black wires each have their own roles: the red wire connects to the ACC ignition power, which is the core lifeline—without it, the device will simply stop working; the yellow wire connects to the constant power to maintain time records, and without it, your dash cam will need to reset the date every time it starts up; the black wire is the ground connection, the safety baseline—without it, the current can't complete the circuit, and it’s easy to fry the device. Last time, a novice tried to save effort by only connecting two wires, and not only did they blow a fuse, but the dash cam also died. I recommend using a multimeter to test the lines first before installation. If you really can’t figure it out, a professional can get it done in half an hour.
