Do all four brake hoses need to be replaced if one bursts?

No, generally only the hose that needs replacement should be changed, as they are typically replaced due to aging. Reasons for replacing brake hoses include: Weakening of braking pressure: Rubber hoses are most likely to cause a weakening of braking pressure. Because rubber material has considerable elasticity, when the brake pedal is pressed, the hydraulic pressure suddenly increases, and part of the braking pressure is converted into outward expansion of the rubber hose, which consequently forces its inner diameter to enlarge. The pressure in the brake line decreases due to this change, resulting in reduced braking force, longer braking distance, and increased braking time. This indeed poses a safety hazard for the vehicle, especially under high-frequency and high-intensity braking conditions, where this defect of rubber hoses becomes more apparent. Solution: Replace rubber hoses with steel braided brake hoses. The inner layer of steel braided brake hoses is made of Teflon material, which offers higher performance compared to nylon materials, and the outer layer is wrapped with a metal braided sheath, hence the name steel braided brake hose. This metal sheath, in combination with the Teflon material, restricts the expansion of the hose, ensuring that braking force is not lost due to expansion.
