I've been driving for over a decade, mainly CNG vehicles, with occasional experience in LNG trucks, so I'm quite clear about the differences between these two fuels. CNG stands for Compressed Natural Gas, which is filled into high-pressure cylinders during refueling, typically reaching over 200 bar. The refueling process is quick, taking just a few minutes, but the driving range is limited—suitable for short trips but less convenient for long distances. LNG, or Liquefied Natural Gas, is cooled to around -160 degrees Celsius to liquefy before storage, offering much higher energy density. This allows for larger storage capacity, making it ideal for long-haul trucks. The key difference lies in their storage states: CNG is high-pressure gas, prone to leaks but with lower risks, while LNG is cryogenic liquid, posing frostbite hazards upon accidental contact. In terms of application, CNG is more common in urban taxis, whereas LNG is prevalent in the freight industry. Overall, CNG has more refueling stations and is more convenient, while LNG is more efficient but comes with higher infrastructure costs, catering to different needs.
