Can You Turn the Steering Wheel While the Car is Stationary?

It is possible to turn the steering wheel while the car is stationary, but it depends on the situation. Reasons not to turn the steering wheel while stationary: From a theoretical perspective, turning the steering wheel while the car is stationary may damage the steering column and cause excessive tire wear. Reasons to turn the steering wheel while stationary: When reversing, it is sometimes necessary to turn the steering wheel while stationary to initiate the turn earlier, thereby reducing the turning path and making it easier to reverse. Additionally, if your car is blocked by vehicles in front and behind, you may need to turn the steering wheel while stationary to slowly maneuver the car out. Failing to do so in such situations could result in a collision.
I've been driving for almost twenty years, and I really don't recommend turning the steering wheel while stationary. The tires are grinding against the ground like sandpaper, causing significant wear. The steering mechanism also has to work much harder, which can lead to problems over time and expensive repairs. This is especially true for cars with electronic power steering, as stationary turning can damage the power steering pump. Some drivers do this when parking in very tight spaces, but even moving slightly at a low speed is better than being completely still. When I was younger, I also took shortcuts for convenience, but I ended up replacing my tires in less than six months. Looking back, it really wasn't worth it.
