Can You Switch from C1 to C2 After Passing Subject 2?

You can switch from C1 to C2 after passing Subject 2. After completing C1 Subject 2, you can change to C2 without needing to retake the test. However, it's important to note that you can only switch from a C1 license to a C2 license; you cannot directly switch from a C2 license to a C1 license during training—you must reapply. C1 Driver's License Age Requirements: The minimum age requirement for a C1 driver's license is 18 years old, with no upper age limit. However, applicants aged 70 and above must pass tests for memory, judgment, and reaction abilities. C1 License Vehicle Classifications: A C1 driver's license allows you to operate small and mini passenger vehicles, as well as light and mini cargo vehicles; light, small, and mini special-purpose vehicles; and small passenger vehicles with a seating capacity of 9 or fewer people. C1 License Restrictions: A C1 license does not permit the operation of large buses, tractors, city buses, medium-sized buses, large trucks, regular three-wheeled motorcycles, regular two-wheeled motorcycles, mopeds, wheeled self-propelled machinery, trolleybuses, or trams. Additionally, a C1 license does not allow driving vehicles with more than 9 seats or trucks with a total length exceeding 6 meters.
When I was preparing for my C1 license, I also struggled with this issue. It took me three attempts to pass the slope start in Subject 2. Later, I specifically went to the DMV to inquire, and the staff confirmed that it is indeed possible to switch to C2. However, there's a key point: the previously passed Subject 2 doesn't count anymore, and you have to retake it according to the automatic transmission standards. This is because manual transmission tests require clutch control, which isn't a requirement for automatic transmission. The entire process involves having the driving school submit an application to transfer your file to the C2 category, and then you need to practice with automatic transmission vehicles again. In the end, I switched to C2. Although it cost me extra fees for retaking the test, Subject 2 for automatic transmission was much simpler, and I passed it on the first try. I recommend making the decision early so that your Subject 1 results are still within the three-year validity period.
