Can You Still Drive with Water in the Transmission?

You should not continue driving if water has entered the transmission. Here are the reasons: 1. Water-oil mixture: Once water enters the transmission, it must be sent to a specialized transmission repair shop for a fluid flush within 24 hours. If more than 24 hours pass, a disassembly and cleaning must be performed within 48 hours. Continued use can cause the transmission gears to mix water with oil under high temperature and pressure, leading to the loss of oil film protection for internal components. 2. Transmission damage: Within 48 hours, transmission components can oxidize and develop rust. If these rusted parts are not replaced promptly, the rust can further clog oil passages, causing issues like rough shifting or slippage in mild cases, or even transmission failure in severe cases.
