Can You Still Drive with a Blown Head Gasket?
1 Answers
It is not recommended to continue driving after a blown head gasket. A blown head gasket can lead to decreased engine power, coolant leaks, and air leaks. If this issue is not addressed promptly, it can cause damage to engine components such as a melted cylinder head, ultimately resulting in engine failure. Symptoms of a blown head gasket include: (1) Sudden increase in coolant temperature as shown on the temperature gauge during engine operation. (2) Coolant overflowing or bubbles appearing in the expansion tank when the accelerator pedal is pressed hard. (3) Oil and coolant stains at the joint between the engine block and cylinder head. (4) A high-pressure gas ejection sound from the engine compartment during operation. (5) Oil stains floating on the coolant in the expansion tank. (6) Noticeable lack of power, significant drop in engine RPM, and black smoke emission when starting the engine.
