Can You Pour Water on Hot Brakes?

Brake discs should not be watered when hot. The reasons and solutions are as follows: 1. Although water can cool things down, it is impossible to evenly cover the entire brake pad with water in an instant. This results in some areas getting wet and shrinking violently, while other areas remain unaffected, creating a stark contrast that can render the entire brake disc inoperable, thereby affecting braking performance. 2. Apart from intentionally watering the brake disc, sometimes getting caught in the rain is unavoidable. If the brake disc is slightly rusted, the braking process can naturally remove these rust spots. 3. If the brake disc is severely rusted, causing an uneven surface, it will affect the overall braking effectiveness. In such cases, the vehicle should be taken to a specialized 4S shop or repair shop to have the brake disc removed entirely for rust removal.
