Can You Make a U-Turn on Double Yellow Lines?

Double yellow lines cannot be crossed for a U-turn, overtaking, reversing, or any other maneuver. You may only make a U-turn when the double yellow lines are broken or become dashed, and only if traffic signs permit and it is safe to do so. Making a U-turn on solid double yellow lines is a violation and will result in a fine and a 3-point penalty. If one line is solid and the other is dashed, vehicles on the side with the dashed line may temporarily cross it for maneuvers like overtaking or turning. Double yellow lines consist of two parallel solid yellow lines, typically painted in the center of roads without a median to separate opposing traffic lanes. Neither double nor single yellow lines should be crossed arbitrarily. Single solid lines are used for two-way roads, while double solid yellow lines are used for roads with four or more lanes.
