Can You Drive in Platform Shoes?
1 Answers
For safety reasons, it is not advisable to drive in platform shoes. Although there are no legal restrictions against driving in platform shoes, wearing them can easily affect the pedal feel when braking, reduce ankle flexibility, and make it difficult to find a proper footing when controlling the brakes. How platform shoes affect pedal feel: Platform shoes typically have a thickness of 4-5 centimeters, which significantly impacts pedal sensitivity. It becomes harder to distinguish the precise depth of the accelerator or brake pedals, and in severe cases, this can lead to mistakenly pressing the accelerator instead of the brake. Poor performance of platform shoes during emergency braking: When performing an emergency stop at 60 km/h, flat shoes achieve a braking distance of 8.3 meters, whereas platform shoes result in a braking distance of 10.8 meters.
