Can You Drive a Car Without the Key for Push-Button Start?

You cannot drive a car without the key for push-button start. For vehicles with push-button start, the key merely serves as a signal source, functioning as an identity recognition device. It does not have control over the main components of the car, such as the engine. Once you enter the car and start the vehicle, control is transferred from the key's signal source to the car's electrical circuits and power system. If the key is lost, you generally cannot enter or start the vehicle. However, if the car is already running, basic operations can still be performed without any issues. Push-button start cars usually come with two keys. If one is lost, you can use the spare key to have a new one matched at a 4S dealership. Once the new key is successfully programmed, the unlocking system's password is updated, and the original key automatically becomes invalid.
I've been driving a car with keyless start for several years. Once after a party, I realized I left the key in the store and couldn't find it at all. This type of car door lock senses whether the key is nearby - without it, you can't even open the door, let alone start the engine. I tried pressing the start button but got no response at all, so I had to call a friend to take me home. Later, I contacted the 4S store and spent 800 yuan to get a new key, which took half a day. They reprogrammed the system to disable the old key to prevent it from being picked up and used for theft. I suggest everyone keep a spare key in a reliable place or set up a mobile app as a backup startup solution in advance, but make sure your car supports it - otherwise, it could really cause trouble in emergencies.
