Yes, you can and absolutely should use a car seat for your child in Cuba. It is legally required for children traveling in vehicles. However, youmust bring your own car seat from home. Car seats are not readily available for rent or purchase at major retailers on the island, and the ones you might find could be outdated, damaged, or not meet modern safety standards you trust. Planning ahead is non-negotiable for your child's safety.

The legal framework in Cuba mandates the use of child restraint systems. While enforcement may be inconsistent, the primary reason for using a seat is safety. Cuban roads and traffic can be unpredictable, and having your child properly secured is the single most effective safety measure you can take. You are responsible for providing your own safe, compliant seat.

The most critical planning step is determining how you will travel. If you are renting a car, you must confirm with the rental company in advance that the vehicle is equipped with functional ISOFIX/LATCH anchors or at least a standard seatbelt that can be used to install your seat. Many older Cuban cars may lack these modern features. If you are using taxis, particularly classic cars, you will need a seat that can be installed quickly and securely using only a vehicle seatbelt. Practicing this installation at home is highly recommended.

Traveling with your own seat also ensures it fits your child correctly and that you are familiar with its operation. Before you leave, inspect your car seat for any damage and ensure it has not expired. Carry a copy of the airline's policy regarding car seats if you are flying, as you will need to check it or use it on the plane.

Travel MethodCrucial for installation (rental car vs. taxi).Determines the type of seat and installation method you'll need.
Vehicle CompatibilityMany older cars lack ISOFIX/LATCH.A seatbelt-install seat is the most versatile choice.
Airline PolicyCheck with your airline before flying. You'll need to gate-check or carry the seat onboard.

Absolutely, bring your own. We just got back, and you won't find car seats for rent like you would in the US. It’s the law there for kids, but more importantly, the taxi rides can be wild. We took a convertible from Havana to Viñales, and I was so glad we had our own familiar seat for our toddler. It gave us peace of mind. Don't even think about going without one; it’s not a risk worth taking. Pack it right along with your sunscreen.

Below is extended information about vehicles not eligible for exemption: 1. Exemption Scope: Vehicles with 7 or more seats are not eligible for exemption; vehicles involved in accidents are not eligible for the 6-year exemption. 2. What does third-party liability insurance mean?

Third-party commercial liability insurance refers to the financial responsibility that the insured or their legally permitted drivers must bear for accidental incidents occurring during the use of the insured vehicle, which cause personal injury, death, or direct property damage to a third party. The insurance company is responsible for compensation. Additional details are as follows: 1. Third-party liability insurance: Since the introduction of compulsory traffic insurance, third-party liability insurance has become a non-mandatory insurance that can serve as a supplement to compulsory traffic insurance. In an insurance contract, the insurer is the first party, also known as the first party; the insured or the person causing the harm is the second party, also known as the second party; apart from the insurer and the insured, the victim who suffers personal injury or property loss due to an accident involving the insured vehicle is the third party, also known as the third party. 2. Third-party commercial liability insurance: Also known as third-party liability insurance, most local governments previously listed it as a compulsory insurance. Without purchasing this insurance, motor vehicles could not be registered or undergo annual inspections. After the introduction of compulsory motor vehicle traffic insurance (referred to as compulsory traffic insurance), third-party liability insurance has become a non-mandatory insurance. Because compulsory traffic insurance provides relatively low compensation for third-party property losses and medical expenses, purchasing third-party liability insurance can be considered as a supplement to compulsory traffic insurance.

How to Add Brake Fluid to a Car?

To add brake fluid to a car: Open the car hood, locate the brake fluid reservoir, and open its cap to add the fluid. Brake fluid, also known as hydraulic brake fluid, is transmitted by the master cylinder to the wheel cylinders during braking. The wheel cylinders then press the brake pads against the brake discs under hydraulic pressure, bringing the car to a stop. The volume of brake fluid changes with temperature, and moisture can enter through the reservoir's vent, dissolving into the fluid and lowering its boiling point. When adding brake fluid, strictly use the type and specification specified by the manufacturer to avoid altering the fluid's performance and damaging the braking components.
