Can Water Be Stored in the Trunk?

Water can be stored in the trunk, and it won't harm human health, but prolonged storage may affect its taste. Scientific Theory: Professor Jiang Pingping from the School of Chemical and Materials Engineering at Jiangnan University stated that plasticizers are generally not added to the PET material of bottled water, which is determined by the production process of PET. The stability of PET depends on the degree of polymerization of the material, and PET is very safe at temperatures below 120°C. Since the interior of a car obviously doesn't reach such high temperatures, the claim that storing mineral water in the trunk produces toxic substances has no scientific basis. Precautions: The production requirements for mineral water bottles are very strict. Previous experiments by relevant experts have shown that even after prolonged boiling, the amount of harmful substances like formaldehyde released from mineral water bottles is far below national standards. However, when the temperature exceeds 80°C, plastic water bottles may soften, and the bottled water may oxidize, inevitably affecting its taste. Short-term storage is acceptable, but it is not recommended to store mineral water in the car trunk for long periods.
