Can Towing Damage a Car?
1 Answers
Proper towing does not damage a car, but improper towing may cause harm. Towing precautions: 1. Towing equipment: Choose brightly colored towing tools such as yellow, blue, fluorescent green, or fluorescent red. If the color is not conspicuous enough, hang colored cloth strips on the towing equipment. At night, use a tow rope or tow bar with reflective materials to enhance visibility. 2. Installation: Install the towing equipment on the same side of the towing hooks of both vehicles. For example, if the disabled vehicle has a left-side hook, the towing vehicle should also use the left-side hook to ensure straight-line driving. After installation, always check to ensure the tow hook is securely fastened to prevent it from dislodging and causing injury. 3. Coordination between vehicles: Pay attention to communication and coordination between the towing and towed vehicles. Effective coordination between the drivers is crucial. Before towing, drivers should plan a reasonable route, avoiding complex and congested roads. If no walkie-talkie is available, agree on signals for starting, slowing down, turning, and navigating slopes to ensure synchronized control. 4. Maintain a safe distance: Control the distance and speed to prevent rear-end collisions. Typically, tow ropes are 5–10 meters long, so maintain a distance within this range and keep the rope taut. The towing speed should not exceed 20 km/h.
