Can the Volkswagen DSG Transmission Stay in D Gear All the Time?

Under normal driving conditions, you can keep the transmission in D gear. When overtaking or going uphill, you can switch to the sport mode. Dry Dual-Clutch Transmission: This type of transmission transmits torque through friction plates on the driven disc of the clutch. By eliminating the hydraulic system and leveraging the high efficiency of dry clutches in torque transmission, it significantly improves fuel economy. However, compared to wet clutches, dry dual-clutch transmissions consume more energy during gear shifts with slip friction. Additionally, dry dual-clutch transmissions have relatively inferior heat dissipation capabilities and can handle lower torque. Wet Dual-Clutch Transmission: Wet dual-clutch transmissions are stable and mature, enabling fast, smooth, and seamless gear shifts. The presence of cooling fluid helps dissipate heat at low speeds, preventing overheating. However, wet dual-clutch transmissions have a more complex structure, larger size and weight, and higher manufacturing costs compared to dry versions. Maintenance is also more time-consuming and labor-intensive, requiring periodic replacement of the cooling fluid.
