Can the Toyota Levin Hybrid Version Get a Green License Plate?

Toyota Levin is a hybrid vehicle and cannot obtain a green license plate. Below is an introduction about green license plates for vehicles: 1. Currently, only pure electric, extended-range electric, and plug-in hybrid models are eligible for green license plates. 2. The engine of hybrid vehicles still uses fuel as the main power source. Only series hybrid passenger vehicles with external charging capability are eligible to apply for green license plates, and hybrid vehicles do not meet this condition. Below are the qualification requirements for applying for a new energy vehicle license plate: 1. The company must be registered in China and have the financial capacity and financing capability commensurate with the project investment. 2. The applying company can only produce pure electric passenger vehicles, including pure electric and extended-range vehicles (i.e., series hybrid passenger vehicles with external charging capability), and must meet relevant national standards.
A few days ago, I accompanied a friend to test drive the Levin Hybrid at a 4S dealership and specifically asked the salesperson. They clearly stated that this model is not eligible for a green license plate. Green plates are mainly issued to pure electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles. Although the Levin Hybrid is fuel-efficient, it uses a nickel-metal hydride battery pack and can only drive two to three kilometers in pure electric mode, which doesn’t meet the national green plate standards. The salesperson even joked that if it could get a green plate, the car would cost tens of thousands more than it does now. However, blue-plate cars are quite convenient in most cities as they aren’t subject to driving restrictions—just remember to pay the annual vehicle and vessel tax.
