Can the newly replaced windshield be exposed to rain?

It is not advisable to expose the newly replaced windshield to rain. It is recommended to avoid rain and car washing for 3 days for the following reasons: 1. The windshield adhesive requires time to cure, and rainwater can affect its bonding strength, leading to poor fixation of the glass and potential safety hazards; 2. During car washing, workers may use high-pressure water jets to clean the car body, which could dislodge the improperly fixed glass or even cause water damage to the car. Additional precautions after windshield replacement include: 1. Try to avoid driving on excessively bumpy roads, sudden braking, and rapid acceleration to prevent the windshield from shifting; 2. Do not insert parking permits or other cards into the gap between the windshield and the dashboard.
I was also very concerned about this issue right after my windshield replacement. The repair technician told me that the new glass is secured with special adhesive, which typically requires over 24 hours to fully cure. If it hasn't dried completely, heavy rain could indeed affect the adhesive's bonding strength, potentially causing leaks or glass loosening. For the first two days after replacement, I tried my best to park in underground garages. When avoiding rain was impossible, I bought a car cover as an emergency measure. I remember after a light rain, I touched the edges of the glass and the adhesive still felt slightly soft, so I made sure to park for an additional day. If you encounter heavy rain within 48 hours after the installation, it's best to return to the shop and have them check the sealing—better safe than sorry.
