Can the Emgrand use 95 octane gasoline?

It is not recommended to use 95 octane gasoline for the Emgrand. Reasons are as follows: If the vehicle is recommended to use 92 octane gasoline, it is not advisable to switch to 95 octane. Using higher octane gasoline is not as beneficial as one might think. Higher octane gasoline does not necessarily enhance engine power. The octane rating represents the gasoline's resistance to knocking—higher numbers indicate better anti-knock properties. However, prolonged mixing of two different octane fuels can be harmful to the engine. In reality, the octane rating has no relation to the cleanliness of the fuel. A study conducted by CCTV also concluded the same based on expert opinions. Differences between 92 and 95 octane gasoline: Octane value: The primary difference lies in the octane value. 92 octane gasoline contains 92% isooctane, while 95 octane gasoline consists of 95% isooctane and 3% n-heptane. Price: Due to the difference in octane content, 95 octane gasoline is more expensive than 92 octane. Anti-knock performance: Gasoline grades are classified by octane value. Higher grades offer better anti-knock performance.
I've driven the Emgrand for several years, and using 92-octane gasoline is perfectly sufficient. While 95-octane has a higher octane rating and theoretically provides better anti-knock performance, the Emgrand's engine is designed to run optimally on 92-octane—its compression ratio doesn't necessitate higher-grade fuel. In daily driving, the power response is nearly identical to 92-octane, but the price difference of 0.5–0.6 RMB per liter adds up to hundreds wasted annually. It’s simply not worth it unless you frequently drive on highways or in extremely hot climates, where 95-octane may slightly reduce noise and knock risks under high temperatures. Overall, 92-octane saves money and hassle, keeping the car running smoothly without overpaying for premium fuel.
