Can the Dash Cam Continue Recording After the Vehicle is Turned Off?

If the dash cam is wired to a 24-hour power supply mode during installation and features such as parking surveillance, time-lapse recording, or motion detection are enabled on the dash cam, it will continue recording even after the vehicle is turned off. When vibration is detected, parking surveillance will initiate recording and automatically save the video to prevent overwriting. If there is movement within the dash cam's field of view, the motion detection function will activate and automatically start recording. With time-lapse recording enabled, the dash cam can record continuously around the clock after the vehicle is turned off. The time-lapse recording function essentially compresses long videos into shorter ones, similar to fast-forwarding in a video player. For example, if 12 hours is set in the time-lapse recording mode, a 24-hour video will be condensed into 12 hours, achieving the goal of all-day monitoring. This method consumes more power than motion detection and parking surveillance. If you drive frequently, it is recommended to enable the time-lapse recording feature. The parking surveillance function relies primarily on a built-in high-sensitivity gravity sensor, which offers four setting options: high, medium, low, and off. When set to off, the dash cam will not automatically start recording if the vehicle is bumped after being turned off. Therefore, it is advisable to enable this feature when parking in areas without surveillance or in blind spots. The motion detection function automatically starts recording when movement is detected in front of the dash cam and stops recording when there is no activity. This not only helps conserve the battery's power but also saves memory card space. Thus, it is recommended to turn on the motion detection function after the vehicle is turned off. Of course, even if the dash cam can continue recording after the vehicle is turned off, there may still be blind spots in its coverage. For safety reasons, it is advisable to park the vehicle in areas with surveillance cameras.
